{"id":693289,"date":"2015-10-07T16:03:38","date_gmt":"2015-10-07T19:03:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/neurovirtual.com\/?p=693289"},"modified":"2015-10-07T16:03:38","modified_gmt":"2015-10-07T19:03:38","slug":"the-american-academy-of-sleep-medicine-aasm-scoring-manual-update-staging-in-neonates-and-hst-rules-for-adults","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/neurovirtual.com\/latam\/the-american-academy-of-sleep-medicine-aasm-scoring-manual-update-staging-in-neonates-and-hst-rules-for-adults\/","title":{"rendered":"The American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) Scoring Manual Update &#8211; Staging in Neonates and HST Rules for Adults"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/elastic-goodall.132-148-76-14.plesk.page\/latam\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Screen-Shot-2015-10-07-at-2.58.00-PM.png\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-693305 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/elastic-goodall.132-148-76-14.plesk.page\/latam\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Screen-Shot-2015-10-07-at-2.58.00-PM.png\" alt=\"Screen Shot 2015-10-07 at 2.58.00 PM\" width=\"805\" height=\"219\" srcset=\"https:\/\/neurovirtual.com\/latam\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Screen-Shot-2015-10-07-at-2.58.00-PM.png 805w, https:\/\/neurovirtual.com\/latam\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Screen-Shot-2015-10-07-at-2.58.00-PM-300x82.png 300w, https:\/\/neurovirtual.com\/latam\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Screen-Shot-2015-10-07-at-2.58.00-PM-768x209.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 805px) 100vw, 805px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) released Version 2.2 of the AASM Manual for the Scoring of Sleep and Associated Events on July 1, 2015.<\/p>\n<p>This update is based on the recommendations of the AASM Scoring Manual Committee, the AASM Board of Directors has approved the addition of two new sections to the manual:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Sleep staging rules for infants<\/li>\n<li>Home sleep apnea testing (HSAT) rules for adults.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aasmnet.org\" target=\"_blank\">www.aasmnet.org<\/a>, these new rules represent significant changes that also incorporate key terminology and definitions with which sleep clinicians and technologists must become familiar, including monitoring time and respiratory event index.<\/p>\n<p>Key terminology for scoring sleep in infants:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Stage W (Wakefulness);<\/li>\n<li>Stage N (NREM) &#8211; analogous to the previously used terminology of \u201cquiet sleep\u201d;<\/li>\n<li>Stage R (REM) &#8211; analogous to the previously used terminology of \u201cactive sleep\u201d;<\/li>\n<li>Stage T (Transitional) &#8211; analogous to the previously used terminology of \u201cindeterminate sleep.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Key terminology for home sleep Apnea testing Scoring:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Monitoring time (MT): Total recording time minus periods of artifact and time the patient was awake as determined by actigraphy, body position sensor, respiratory pattern, or patient diary.<\/li>\n<li>Respiratory event index (REI): Total number of respiratory events scored \u00d7 60 divided by monitoring time (MT).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All AASM accredited sleep facilities and HSAT programs are required to implement the new rules in Version 2.2 by October 1, 2015.<\/p>\n<p>For more information on Sleepvirtual HST\/PSG <a href=\"https:\/\/elastic-goodall.132-148-76-14.plesk.page\/latam\/ourproducts\/sleep-medicine\/\" target=\"_blank\">click here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) released Version 2.2 of the AASM Manual for the Scoring of Sleep and Associated Events on July 1, 2015.
